QUESTION

What's it like as professionals to make and keep friends?

After receiving this question from a fellow therapist on Instagram, Dr Miriam Kirmayer and I kept recording after our podcast episode on friendship breakups and had a candid conversation without any set questions or script to follow.

We discussed:

  • What it’s like to be an expert and still struggle in this area
  • The expectations of ourselves as experts vs. ourselves as friends
  • Our own needs as individuals in friendships
  • The roles we play in friendships (e.g., learning to ask for help)
  • The question of whether we need a best friend

A MESSAGE FROM DR. TRACY D

As a clinical psychologist and couples therapist, I see women in my office every day talking about their relationship with their significant other. Relationships are hard work! No one teaches us how to communicate or express what it is that we want and need.

The challenge? We don’t always have the time, resources, or interest in attending couples therapy. And for many, I hear that your partner isn’t ready to do the work.

This is exactly why I created Be Connected. A space for women who are ready to strenghten their relationships.

Warmly,
