Season 1 Episode 11: You are not your anxiety with Dr. Julie Groveman

I recently posted that your anxiety does not define you (see post here).

I received so many comments about how relieving this message was!

Anxiety. So many of us experience anxiety – an emotion that is normal and part of the human experience. Despite it being a normal emotion, many clients show up in the therapy office wanting to get rid of it. It is one of the most common presentations. “Its too hard to cope with,” is often said. Or, it has taken over their lives and impacted their ability to live the life they want. They have stopped going out to the grocery store. They have stopped seeing friends. They can’t complete what they want to do each day because they are stuck in worries and fears.

Can you get rid of anxiety?

Dr. Julie Groveman and I talk all about anxiety today. Dr. Julie Groveman is a licensed psychologist with a private practice in NYC. Her work focuses on helping you break toxic patterns, conquer fear and to empower you to be the most confident version of yourself. She hosts nourishing Women’s workshops aimed to strengthen self-compassion and self-esteem. Outside of her therapy work, she is a passionate advocate for cleaner safer beauty/skin-care, and you can find her work here.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Dr. Julie’s early experience with anxiety and what this message taught her
  • The importance of labelling and noticing this emotion
  • Traits about you that contribute to the experience of anxiety
  • How our inner critic and self-doubt leads to anxiety
  • Common things people do to cope with anxiety that are NOT helpful
  • Dr. Julie’s top three tips for coping with anxiety
